Course Reporters: Kia Classic – Day 1, Part 2

Media Day at the 2016 Kia Classic

Today was an amazing day at the Kia Classic!  We started off the day by meeting many new people who were all extremely kind and as excited to meet us as we were to meet them. The first interview we conducted was with Carlotta Ciganda from Spain while she warmed up for her round on the putting green.  Then we went to the media center and were part of a press conference with Lydia Ko, and as course reporters, we were able to ask her a few questions of our own!

From there, we went to watch some of the players do a photoshoot for upcoming events. We were able to interview and take pictures of Jessica Korda, Lexi Thompson, Lexi’s caddy, Maria McBride, and Maria’s daughter Emily.  Jessica shared some stories about other photoshoots she has done in the past, and she taught us that the only way to get rid of a foot tan is to use Tan in a Can! All of the girls were SUPER cool!  It was awesome to be able to talk to the players and watch them do what they do in their daily lives as professional golfers.

After eating lunch with a group of girls from various Girls Golf clubs, we went into the sports medicine trailer and talked to the physical therapists about how they treat the players’ injuries. It was interesting to see what the girls do when they get injured during their round and how their injuries are treated before going back out on the course the next day. Next, we walked to the Golf Channel trailer and Greg Thorne taught us about all the things that happen behind the scenes with the cameras, and he even put us and our names on the monitor just like you see on TV! It’s crazy how much planning goes into deciding where the cameras go on the course!

Another person we got the chance to interview was Gabe Roux, one of the incredible photographers for the LPGA.  I really enjoyed hearing about what it’s like to follow the girls around taking amazing action shots of their swing.

The whole day was very educational for me and it really gave me an insight into what it’s like to be on the LPGA!  Keeping up with the hustle and bustle of the job must be difficult, but I can tell that all of the girls are extremely dedicated and are living the dream!
