2017 LPGA Bank of Hope Founders Cup – Jr Course Reporters – THURSDAY

Thursday Recap
by Mary Beth Doss:

Today, I arrived at the course early and decided to start off by watching my favorite LPGA Pro Golfer Morgan Pressel play. The moment she saw us on Hole 3 watching, she came over to say hello and give us a hug! I was able to watch her play all the way through to Hole 13; it was wonderful because she’s one of my biggest inspirations! After this, I walked back to The Girl’s Golf tent to check in with Cori and all the other girls.

Meg loves to volunteer, meet new people, bake, hike, tell corny jokes, go on adventures and PLAY GOLF (especially Girls Golf)! What she loves most about golf is what is learned on course that can apply off course… She knows the importance of the game on and off and has learned integrity, honesty and sportsmanship. As a freshman just starting golf, Meg earned the privilege to play on top 5 on her High School varsity golf team and some of her successes include qualifying for the state championship, chipping-in during competitive rounds, and winning MVP for her team (as a freshman)! When Meg is not playing golf, she can be found volunteering in the community, worshiping at her church, playing with her 13 chickens or having fun with family and friends.

LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Course Reporters: Kingsmill, Part 2

Rain or shine the LPGA goes on. Even though the weather was not perfect, the ladies played through that and had an amazing game. As we watched them we saw how concentrated you have to be. It was great to watch. When we got to interview the girls they had an answered all of my questions without hesitation they were all great, they were nice to us and did not get annoyed with me. When they came off the 18th green some came off happy and others came off knowing they could have done better but regardless they all were happy to answer questions, like Lexi Thompson as she was walking away we could tell she was upset but when we asked for an interview she gathered herself and answered all of my questions. All of the girls were so amazing that weekend and played their best. Continue reading

LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Course Reporters – Kingsmill, Part 1

Virginia’s weather is always unpredictable, but it will not keep the LPGA away!  This weekend I had the privilege of being chosen as a LPGA / Acer Jr. Golf Course Reporter and a privilege it was.  Saturday started out with nothing but rain and cold weather.  The game was put off until 12:03, and, when it started, they kept playing, but because of the hectic rescheduling, our day of reporting was delayed which turned out to my advantage.  As I usually do the Girls Golf clinic, I would have missed it if I had been reporting. The Girls Golf clinic is a part of the LPGA Kingsmill you need to experience.  As the clinic and LPGA*USGA Girls Golf is one of the best programs of getting girls involved in a used-to-be predominantly men’s sport, and I will tell you why. Course Reporters: Kia Classic – Day 1, Part 2

Media Day at the 2016 Kia Classic

Today was an amazing day at the Kia Classic!  We started off the day by meeting many new people who were all extremely kind and as excited to meet us as we were to meet them. The first interview we conducted was with Carlotta Ciganda from Spain while she warmed up for her round on the putting green.  Then we went to the media center and were part of a press conference with Lydia Ko, and as course reporters, we were able to ask her a few questions of our own!

Round 2 at the 2016 Kia Classic

Today was our second and final day on the course.  We met many new people and enjoyed so many incredible new experiences.  The day started off meeting the Marines who pulled the flag on the ninth hole.  They were very nice and excited to be there representing the military.  Then, our friend Bob Ross from the media center introduced us to Dave Scott from KUSI News.  Dave invited us to come to the first tee box so he could interview US about Girls Golf on live TV!!  We were super excited be asked for an interview.

Round 2 at the 2016 Kia Classic!

I think today topped the amazing day that we had on Wednesday which was tough to beat. We got to meet so many more players today and see what it is like on an actual game day. I noticed how all the players went to putt after their round and it is a good wind down after a round. It was so fun hearing the crowd cheer when someone made a good putt or chipped in on 18. All the volunteers and players were so nice!!!

Day 1, Wednesday 23rd
LPGA Kia Classic Media Day

Today was such a fun day!! The day began with meeting up with Allie then she took us to the media tent. Everyone was so nice there! Our first interview was with Carlota Ciganda. She is truly so kind and she is so funny! After meeting the amazing Carlota we went up to watch a press conference with Lydia Ko which was a sight to see. I think one of the most fun things we did all day was going to the photo shoot at the hotel. We met several new people and it was so much fun watching the players pose for their pictures. They had to look fierce but also look kind. It was definitely as much fun for the players to take the pictures as much as it was for us to watch.

Final Round JTBC Founders Cup

I started off the day being a “tee girl” on the first tee. By having this job I had to greet all the players who were about to tee and begin the final round of the 2016 LPGA JTBC Founders Cup. It was really nice how even though many of the players were their “zone”, they still took the time to introduce themselves and say hi. My favorite person that I meet that morning was Brooke Henderson because she was very sweet and started talking to Kalysta and I like we were her best friend. That personability means so much to us! Another thing that I found really interesting, was how the announcers were always able to pronounce the players’ names – you can tell they have been doing this a long time. They even told a few of their secrets when they come across a name that scares them.

Final Round JTBC Founders Cup

Kalysta here! EEEKKK! It’s the last day at the LPGA JTBC Founders Cup Scottsdale, Arizona. I met up with Katie in the morning and we got our special Caramel Frappuccino blended coffee to start our day—Makes us feel official! Then we headed over to the first tee to help greet and start groups. It is Green & Tee girl day at the event. We were able to meet with a lot of players, snap pictures and autographs as they teed off on their first hole of the day but most importantly, we got to say “thank you for supporting Girls Golf!”
